And as she looked at it, she suddenly
saw behind the Rule of the Agreed World that she would have to bend,
the sacrifice she would have to make on behalf of another's spirit,
and she felt a sense of dread as she put her magic to the task and
wove a spell that stole something precious from someone else's dreams.
..........
Late that night, she went back
home to her humble house in the forest, but a muddied cloud of heavy
sadness hung about her spirit that made the night even darker than
ever before.
When The Chinchilla Princess arrived
home she found her lover asleep in bed. She quietly crept under
it, and retrieved her little blue bottle of tiny, crystalised tears
from under the floorboard where it was hidden. She opened her sleek,
black case, took out her Magical Scroll and walked into the woods.
She walked and walked for hours,
unsure of where she was heading but all the time telling herself
to trust in the words of Great Wolf, and, allowing herself to believe,
she suddenly emerged into a wide clearing where before her she saw
a glorious, moonlit lake.
The Chinchilla Princess walked
up to the shore of the lake and set her scroll down on the sandy
ground at her feet.
She took out her little blue bottle,
removed the cork, sprinkled her tiny, crystalline tears into the
lake, and watched mesmerised as they disolved in little flashes
of brilliant blue light into the water, and the lake itself took
on an enchanting turquoise glow.
Nervously she took off her coarse,
worn pelt and hung it on a branch on the Old Willow Tree nearby.
She felt naked and vulnerable, but put her fear aside as she knelt
at the edge of the lake and felt the water gently lapping around
her knees.
She took out her heart. The soft,
pure gold of it was now totally obscured by the tough red membrane.
She gently lowered her heart into the glowing water, and washed
it with all the love and tenderness a mother has as she bathes her
newborn child. Then she buried it in the earth at the base of the
Old Willow Tree.
She trembled as she felt the terrible
emptiness of separation from it, but put her fear aside and walked
back to the shores of the lake.
Now, naked and vulnerable and
wracked with terrible pangs of emptiness, she mustered all the courage
she had, picked up her magical scroll and wide-eyed, dove deep down
into the depths of the gently glowing turquoise waters of the lake.
At first she struggled and panicked,
for she could not swim! But remembering Great Wolf’s words,
she let herself trust the currents of life and relaxed. As she did
she felt her body move with the water, and as she looked out she
saw a great wonder in the glowing crystalline depths…
..........
The Chinchilla Princess saw herself
travelling on her undreamt of adventures, full of laughter and life,
and she saw herself using her skills and learning to bend the Rules
of the Agreed World to help others live full and happy lives.
Suddenly she felt a powerful current
surge through her and raise her up to the surface of the lake. As
she emerged, she looked around and saw the world was imbued with
an extraordinary clarity and brilliance, and she knew then, that
her wild and fresh sight had returned.
She swam back to the shore and
walked out of the lake, placed her Magical Scroll down on the sandy
shore, and looked in wonder at the Old Willow Tree. There at its
base, where she had buried her heart, grew a beautiful pink flower
with a stem the colour of Spring’s First Green.
She walked up to it and touched
it, and it vibrated and hummed a light and gentle sound so sweet
as to make her skin tingle. She looked into the centre of the flower
and saw there her original generous heart of pure gold, cleansed
and glowing with power.
