h2g2
is a community website based on the 'guide' in the cult book 'Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galazy' by Douglas Adams, who was one of the founding
members and directors of the company (which incidentally began its
days as The
Digital Village).
As one of h2g2's resident artists, I was responsible
for establishing a visual illustrative style together with the other
artists, and illustrating many of the articles published on the
website. I must have done hundreds!
Some of them were mini animations, such as this
one for an article on a little Japanese girl called Sadako who got
leukaemia from the atom bomb at Hiroshima in the Second World War.
There is a beautiful story about how Sadako set
about making a thousand paper cranes from her hospital bed, for
there was a legend
that should she complete the task she would be granted a wish. Hers,
of course, was to be well again... |
